Why is the CO2 laser beam invisible?

SOING CO2 lasers are in the infrared spectrum, beyond the visible range of the human eye. The wavelength of light visible to the human eye ranges between 380 nanometers (violet) and 740 nanometers (red), while CO2 lasers have much longer wavelengths, typically between 9 and 11 nanometers.
